Our History.

Mark's has been operating in Wagga Wagga NSW, Australia since 1969. We are a very well known fish shop, winning several awards over the years for fabulous food and exceptional customer service. Mark, Georgina and their family have offered quality fish & chips with a friendly smile since the 1960s and have garnered tremendous loyalty over the years by our wonderful customers. We have also been privileged to hear some truly amazing stories by those who travel from all around the world to pay us a visit. We are usually a busy place and have always maintained a history of late night trading.

Georgina introduced the concept of chunky chips at Paddy's Markets in Sydney Australia shortly after she emmigrated from Greece in 1960. With a passion for being sociable with food, she operated several successful hot food businesses in Sydney during the 60s, 70s and 80s, back in the days when fish and chips were still being wrapped in the daily newspaper. Opting for a change in lifestyle, she brought her ideas to Wagga Wagga in 1990 and has never looked back. The family expanded the business and added to the great reputation that Mark's already had by this stage and rebirthed the chunky chip phenomenon, making Mark's the very first store ever in Australia to publicly offer Chunky style chips. Mark's hand cuts its 20mm thick Chunky Chips in-house daily from freshly washed and peeled potatoes, which have been carefully sourced and selected to adhere to Mark's standards of quality. This dedication to good food and customer service was evident in 1992, when Mark's became a Winner in the Wagga Wagga Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Awards. Mark's continued to be a finalist in subsequent years and also won further awards for offering Heart Foundation approved food products, continuously receiving further accolades in the Fish & Chip industry.

The growing popularity of Mark's allowed us to be innovative leaders in patented unique food snacks, herbs, spices and sauces, which paved an increasing demand for our creations. Our store is also home to the legendary and popular Hawaiian Sandwich for the past 30 years! In more recent times, the Mark's family has bred new life into the traditional fish and chip shop and continues to add new ideas, recipes and further refinements into the mix. In 2000, Mark worked closely with Sydney-based food companies and created a specific blend of salts, spices and condiments such as Mark's unique blend of chicken salt along with a range of other innovative flavours. This garnered the attention of certain food industry specialists who urged Mark to expand his practices and distribute his products on a national level, which is now being managed by its Sydney division.

The current fish shop is located at 10 Gurwood St, Wagga Wagga (a few doors down from Woolworths, adjacent to Northside Pharmacy) and was relocated to this new address on January 1st, 2014 to provide a more convenient location for our customers. Traditionally operating as a take away style eatery, our Gurwood St. store now provides family-sized tables and chairs and is directly linked to amenities such as Taxis, Buses, Pubs & Motels. Our new menu was extended in 2014 as part of an exciting new re-branding strategy where we now include new varieties of Battered, Grilled and Crumbed Fish, whilst refining some of our other favourite foods as part of the new overhaul. The store currently operates 7 Days a Week from 10am-9pm and our phone number remains the same for over 40 years! - (02) 69 213354.
